Wells Requests Property Tax Deferments on H

The Examiner reports that Councilmember Tommy Wells (Ward 6) has asked the Council to grant a deferment for businesses impacted by the construction on H Street NE, and Seventh Street SE. Under his proposed legislation the businesses would be granted an extension allowing them until September 15th to pay funds that would normally come due on March 31st. Wells explains that the rationale behind his legislation is that the value of land on a corridor like H has gone up (so taxes have risen), but customer traffic is down because of the heavy construction (and possibly also the economy).
