Dude is truly an original, and super nice guy. I had a chance to rap with him at the HSCC on opening night, and it was an absolute pleasure recounting all of his work. He showed my girls and me some of the nuiances of his ant mural which begged the question is this "Insect Club" decor rehashed stuff. He assured us it was new stuff, while laying out the concept of the piece and flicking on and off this funky little pin light.

My wife and I have been around town long enough to have visited all of his DC work, from the 15 min club to the H Street County Club. In it was really cool to talk about by gone days and places that dude had built truly original, one of a kind shit. The 15 Min Club had a cafeteria steam table for hot food, complete with sneeze guards and those funky rails to slide your tray along, the place really was a caferteria by day. So you could get free cafeteria type grub while looking at that surrreal mural or watch a movie or see a band usually for 5 bucks or so ). Unfortunately a lot of that stuff is long gone. My favorite were the Audulusian Dogs a top of the bar with the same name (now occupied by Twins Jazz on U) Are those dogs still there?

He is Joe E's enabler and i hope they continue their run of successful, whimsical, corky, and visually stimulating watering holes for many years to come. Sappy I know, but I think these places had a major influence on deciding to make the District my home.

Kudos to Lee for helping to making the DC scene way more interesting!
