A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Inspire Pizzeria Comes to H Street
Walking by the former home of Platinum Catering I noticed several posters in the window proclaiming the imminent arrival of Inspire Pizzeria. Apparently this is a program that offers job training to youth interested in the food service industry.

it's yet another guise to get some kind of operating permit.
I was hesitant to agree with poo poo, but it seems the only mention of "Inspire Pizzeria" on the internet is courtesy of this blog- today!
Not a good sign that this is a legitimate nonprofit organization or program. I even checked guidestar to see if any nonprofit anywhere in the US has a program called "Inspire Pizzeria."
it's simply a way of getting the place open so they can roll in $$.
just look at the history of the place.
i could be wrong, but i'm usually not.
they'll have "pizza making parties", and the same crap will happen all over again. illegal parking, drug usage in the alleys, loud music until late....
just watch.
i'm just saying.......
they went from an illegal operation to a "save the youth and honor the neighborhood" kinda joint?
Isn't New Citi Pizza on the north side of the 500 block? Unfortunate choice of location there. I'm going to stay loyal to Citi and their friendly service and cheap prices. :-)
How much training do you really need to sling pies? Can't underprivileged youth just get a job at pizzeria and learn there? Thats how I learned...
Next thing you know we'll be hearing that this place is being run by Marion Barry staffers and has gotten $500K in taxpayer dollars from the city to help the children make better pizzas for the community. Only later will we find out that no actual pizzas were made.
This is actually at 650 H Street. And they have one open elsewhere in the city. I forget where, but if you go to 650 H you can get the address and visit that one. Maybe that would be a better idea than just tossing out random speculation on the internet.

Isn't that a "random specualtion" that spawned even more speculation? Maybe speculation causes people to ask questions that need to be asked. And based on ALL this speculation, I now have serious concerns about this place.
I just repeated what it said on the sign. There is no speculation on my part. The apparently was just there because I had never heard (I suspect the same is true of others) of the group.
Random speculation is what the commenters on this sight do best. sometimes they hit nail on the head. Other times wich is most of the time they are way off.
Platinum Catering has had mentoring programs in the past. This just sounds like a continuation of what they have been doing for a number of years (without incident I might add)
anon 10:29 - I posted some comments on the post about Free Mural. The owner is creating a Sports Bar and has not bothered to get in touch with the ANC and the neighborhood to reach a community agreement. Most of what he has been doing may be without a permit. I did notice an electrical permit posted earlier.
Thank you very much for your continuing support of Hst. as a 3rd generation Washingtonian who grew up in the Hst. corridor. The owner of Platinum Catering can understand the frustration and speculations about the businesses on Hst.. However there have been positive stories written about the owner of Platinum and the new owners of Inspire Pizzeria. Platinum has feed 1000s of DC public charter schools students for the last seven years and helped them and there parents learn about health and nutrition threw workshops and seminars. The owner of Platinum has hired and trained ex-offenders and other people from divers backgrounds who found it hard to get employment. The owner also understands the importance of training our high school youth. He teaches them costumer service skill and assists them in getting food service certified so that they can be gainfully employed in the food service industry. This teaches the students the importance of education (Washington DC has a very high drop out rate and we are striving to change it). The owner strongly believes that more business and concerned citizen should positively support the community that they do business in and live in rather then spread lies. Platinum Catering has successfully self funded its own programs because we believe in giving people a hand up not just a hand out. Platinum Catering would like to thank again the community and a few of its corporate clients like Fannie Mae, Channel 4, all the DC public charter schools and DC Department of Employment Service to named a few. The owner of Platinum Catering hopes that you welcome and support the new owners of Inspire Pizzeria.

watch...
What does this mean? Will they sell pizza, or just do job training? Also,
...sorry, posted too soon. Meant to also ask where exactly this is located (on H? near what intersection?)
500 block, north side

Nope.
you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

yeah...
this is on the 500 block?
When have there been problems with a location there? wasnt the problem at 401 H street?

i keep hearing good things about citi pizza. is this the rare unanimous co-sign for an h street business? i might have to give them a try now.
New Citipizza is great. Love their Greek and BBQ Chicken pizzas, and they are always friendly and fast.
Why can't you just open a business with a good business plan, and then do community work?
meh,
I had a slice from Citi a while back. Wasn't enthused.
If you want better bad pizza, check out Capitol Pizza on Florida.

This venture seems suspect.....Watch out neighbors. Will there be a neighborhood meeting to discuse this establishment?

Inked, the internet is MADE for random speculation! :-)

And they do have a website, I just can't recall the address.

Off Topic: Does anyone know what is going on at 523 H Street? I saw a crew repairing the roof and noticed a new AC unit on the roof.

I am not the owner of Platinum Catering I’m the owner’s assistant
I back Platinum Catering 100%. Let's support Black businesses, especially in a rapidly-growing gentrified area.
