My neighbor told me there was evidently a checkpoint at 4th and L ne tonight. They were asking for IDs from people in cars. I guess maybe this is technically a different type of checkpoint.
Ok, I find it strange to be on the other side of personal rights, but I'm curious. How does this differ from the couple signs around the hill saying that streets are blocked to all but local traffic during rush hour? (There's one at 2nd and F or G near Union Station.) Yes, one instance is to stop crime and one is for traffic flow, but aren't they both limiting access for the public good? I'm not a lawyer and curious about opinions.
On a lighter note.....Does anyone have a point of contact for Frozen Tropics.My block is having a multi-family yard sale on Saturday 8-18-09 1100 block of 5th street N.E,and I would like to post.
DC Attorney General is playing fast and loose withe truth. From the article: "It was effective," Nickles said. "People were coming in, using cars to shoot the place up and then escaping in their vehicles."
Unless my memory is wrong, i remember reading that the person responsible for several of the murders which launched these checkpoints, actually LIVED IN Trinidad. The checkpoints would never have stopped him from entering as he was a local resident.
Mr. Nickles is obviously aware of this fact. Doesn't he realize that politicians constant estrangment from the complete truth is why we distrust them.

One guy who allegedly murdered three people did live in Trinidad. However, there were also determined to be two cars of people who came from outside the neighborhood and randomly shot people from the cars. So his statement there isn't bogus.

Well doesn't the opinion seem to suggest that it was the denial of entrance that was unconstitutional, not the stopping and checking IDs?
