Much Ado About Nothing Off H

IMG_5565
Express reports on the Folger Theatre's production of Shakespeare's play. Much of the action takes place just off H Street. WAMU (scroll down) identifies one location as the alley behind Horace and Dickie's. I haven't been able to listen to the piece yet, so I don't know if the WAMU reporter mistakenly thinks that alley is in Trinidad, or if part of the play really is set in Trinidad. I suspect the latter because I think the Director picked Trinidad so its name could fit with his Caribbean theme.

  1. I heard the director (or someone) interviewed on WAMU. I believe it is set, at least partially, in Trinidad. He kept talking about a barber shop that was located in an alley. I don't know of any other alleys with Barbershops besides the one near Florida Avenue that goes between West Virginia and Montello (behind JB's, the corner liquor store).

It was an interesting interview. It started off asking, "If Shakespeare lived now in DC, which neighborhood would he live in." When the answer was Trinidad I was like, "whaaaat?" Good for Shakespeare though. Maybe he'd buy the foreclosed house next to us.

  4. i listened to the piece, and it sure sounded like it all was supposed to take place in that one alley behind horace and dickeys. didn't sound like it was supposed to be set in trinidad proper (north of florida), but i might be wrong.
