Noticed tonight the coverings are down over the windows at the old Pap and Petey's site on 5th and H. Looks all renovated and getting ready to open. There's a big "Rocket" behind the bar. Any idea what's opening there?
He wanted to open just before Christmas but there seemed to be too much work to do for that to happen. He is calling it Toyland because a toy store was there first. To tie back to the history of the place. It's good that he will open soon. I hope the Ethiopian restaurant can get their license and open soon.
Lightly themed, hence the name. There will be some food, but I don't know that it will be ready when they first open. The building owner, David Bernhardt is doing it with a couple of partners (at least one of whom is a former Acadiana employee).
So googling "Toyland" brings up a facebook page for "Kings Entertainment Group" advertising a 2010 new years' party at that location, featuring the latest hip hop/R&B and is "only for the grown & sexy".
I don't see the results that you do. I even googled Kings Entertainment Group and I really don't think it is connected to the same location at 5th & H Street NE. Besides, booking the place a year in advance? Also, nothing was ready this past NYE. I am sure David Bernhardt will announce the opening. when he is ready.
The NYE party had a related name but has nothing to do with the new bar. I know or know of the people involved. David B has quite a bit of style. The management team also has good experience. I would bank that this will be a very good place. Remember, David was intimately involved with getting Sidamo operating and it is quite a success. Can't wait to support this new endeavor

i really just can't get into karaoke...otherz?
me neither, cousin! i just don't get it. i'd rather chase squirrels in the park with a battery operated squirt gun at midnight.
or consume between 30-40 raw oysters in nothing but a bathrobe while watching the NASA channel.
the allure eludes me.

A new bar called Toyland

Does anyone know when this Toyland is opening? Sorry to be off-topic! :-)
Probably a couple of weeks. They're just making sure they have all the kinks worked out.
Is there a "theme" to this place? Will they be serving food? And who is behind it? I'm certainly intrigued.

Nice! I hope they plan to use the upstairs (as well as consider roof deck/patio) as that space is relatively small otherwise.
Regardless, I'll be sure to check it out.
I wish there was some official word or an official opening date.
1:04,
I'll get it to you when I have it. I'm sure they'd rather make sure everything is working right before they fully open.

Ugh. Is it going to be that kind of joint?
Kewl...I drove past there last night, and I saw people inside cleaning and gettin the place prep.Glad to see other venues on the west side of H street.
Fading,
they aren't open yet. It looks like they rented out the space for New Years. Why? You got something against people over 30?
fading,

maybe Fading is anti-sexy people. or just young and ugly. :(
I'll just say I'm glad it was a one-off and leave it at that. Enthusiasm restored!
