I have eaten here twice since it opened, and it was great both times. I really enjoyed it, and look forward to frequenting often.

Also, it makes great carry out...

What would anyone suggest for a take out item for someone who's never had Ethiopian food.

The folks at Ethopic are super nice! They really treated us like family with a special coffee roasting follwing a wonderful dinner on Easter Sunday. It is a great addition to the neighborhood. Try a sampler platter either meat or veggie.

I don't normally love Ethiopian food but my husband and I ate there with another couple two weeks ago and we all came away very happy. The food was delicious and the staff very warm and welcoming. It's a little pricey to make it a staple neighborhood restaurant for us, but we would absolutely go back on occasion.

I took some non-DC friends to Ethiopic last Sat. and it was Pack-ked, with a capital P. We did get a table though, and everyone was happy w/ the food.
Ditto the other comments on the friendly staff.
The sampler says for "2" but we did the meat sampler plus a veggie dish and that left all four of us stuffed w/ yet more still sitting on the table.

Adding my recommendation!

Food was great, and the staff were fantastic!

I went a couple of weeks ago and agree: very welcoming, great food, and pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. All that only 2 blocks from my house!

So I don't want to sound too picky, but the prices were a bit higher than I expected. I'm not a regular at other Ethiopian places, but I've been to Dukem and Etete in the last year, and I thought the prices there were $3-$4 less than Ethiopic. Can anyone who goes over to 9th St regularly confirm or refute my memory?

yeah, it is on the pricey side for ethiopian. the portions are huge and the food really good so i don't mind too much, but it does mean i won't be going there as oftne as i'd like.

concur with everybody else though the food is fantastic and the staff and owners really nice.

I find most meals on H St. $3-4 too expensive.

Speaking of the price of meals on H Street, I was suprised to see Souk has already raised their prices. Our old take-out menu listed our fave Mergues sandwich as $8. Now it's $9 AND your don't get the side salad or fries. I had always thought they could actually charge $1 more for their offerings, but I was disappointed that they BOTH raised the price AND eliminated the side.

You really have to look around a bit to find a good cheap meal on H St. They are to be found.

Horace and Dickies fish sandwich is a lot of food for the price.

A small Cheesesteak at Philly water and ice won't set you back much.

Jerk or Curry Chicken meal at Nabys is awesome and a great value especially if you hit the lunch special.

The sandwiches at Miss Whiskeys are pretty tasty and cheap.

You can get a lot of good food for under $10 at Capital City Diner or across the street at Sullivans

The Pug's Brat and Old Style for $6(do they still offer that?)

Tony's Carryout is cheap I'll leave it at that.

Sugar has great sandwiches for $6
