In Prague, the 22 tram goes right through main square of the Mala Strana area, one of the most historic and beautiful city squares on Earth, a couple minute's walk from Charles Bridge, built in the 1300s. The tram does nothing to detract from the historic value of that place, and tourists ride it by the thousands.
Check it out by doing "malostranske namesti tram" in Google images.

as a one-time resident of Prague, I agree wholeheartedly with you Rob...if anyone thinks that that the views in the that 1000+ yr old city are less precious than what we have here in DC, they are sadly mistaken [not to knock DC, I love it here, but its comparing apples to oranges] we need to examine in full detail the impact of the wires on the city. if you want to have leave the capitol hill/monuments area off-limits to wires, I'm cool with that [until a wireless option is more feasible] but since the current plans dont include any streetcar lines in that area, they should put up the wires and get this city moving into the 21st century!
