Biergarten Haus Opening Delayed

It's bad news for those hoping to raise a glass at the Biergarten Haus this weekend. The opening has been pushed back a little, and they seem to be holding off on an exact date. Here's what they are saying:

May 10th, 2010

To All Our Future Biergarten Customers,

Thank you to everyone for all the support and wonderful feedback in anticipation of our Grand Opening!!!

We had high hopes of tapping our first keg this coming weekend, however have decided to postpone in order to perfect D.C's first, long awaited, German Style Beer Garden.

To ensure that we provide the best top notch service and quality environment we will be taking just a bit more time before opening to the public. But, we assure you we will be ready to serve in the coming weeks.

We can hardly wait to meet all our future customers and look forward to serving you.

Please continue to check the site for updates and information.

Thank you again

Beer Garden Management

I feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy kept pulling the football away at the last second.

I seriously can't wait for this place to open. Does anyone know if there will be two floors? Will they have any games?

Games?

Like Samuel L. said in Pulp Fiction...

"Hey, hey, I'm startin' to get a lil' pissed off here..."

darts, pool, golden tee, fooseball, etc. H st is seriously lacking in the games dept. HST CC is the only place out of some 10+ bars on that street

there's still "Auto Zone" bingo at Sticky Rice.

-Grab a bar or window seat at Sticky Rice.
-On a piece of paper draw 17 squares in a single straight line, underneath it another line of 20 squares (18 if you want to count the handicap spots as "jokers"). Number the squares.
-Everyone in your group/at the bar chooses a square or squares; bets are made.
-When an Auto Zone customer comes out and pops his hood to work on his car, the person with that numbered square wins that round.

games, we talkin about games... said...

Games? You want games? What is this? High School at the local Mall's Arcade? If you want games go to Landmark Mall...not H Street!!

5:48,
The Argo has darts, cornhole, and some other game I'd never seen before. Sticky Rice has Blingo, The Hotel has Jenga. There is more, but that's off the top of my head.

The h st cc has a ton of games. I wouldn't call that place a high school arcade. If it weren't for those games they'd be out of biz

pug has fooseball too.

anonymous gamer- sounds like you want to go to Trusty's on Penn and 14th SE. Love that place. Beer in mason jars. Smells like deep fryer. Big Buck Hunter and all the board games you can desire.

Are the Biergarten Haus people still trying to figure out who in DCRA to pass money to under the table? Are they trying to haggle over an amount for the graft?

We here at SOVA have lots of games - love games.

can someone explain what a beer garden is please?

@ Cadro
Yes, but it is sort of self explanatory... rather than re-invent the wheel, the first listing that comes to google is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_garden

@ Cadro

You were obviously taught, there are no stupid questions.

The coolest bar game of all time is called Hammerschlagen. It is a German bar game where you try to drive a single nail into a tree stump. Last guy to get his nail in, buys the round. You can find in bars in Germany and in a few German bars up in Wisc. It wold be amazing if they did at the Biergarten.

Here is a facebook site about it.

Have a tent with a keg and a German will call it a Bier Garten.

Prosst!

There are actually very few place in the District to sit outside and drink. And even fewer place to sit on the roof and drink.
I just hope the phat boyz don't over crowd it and take it over.

Jro... I know of a similar drinking game that I used to play at school called Stump. Where you flip the hammer in the air and try to get other people's nails into the stump. Probably the best game ever and not as dangerous as people think.

Don't know why they keep saying they aren't open. I've been a couple of times.

Can someone please tell me--

What bar(s) on H St are open during the week at 5PM?

oboe said...

OK THAT'S IT!!!! This is such a slap in the face to H Street neighbors, and I suggest we stay away from this establishment.

I say we all boycott it, especially the sweet upstairs space with all the TVs during the upcoming World Cup. I may have to hang out there drinking, eating and watching the games--just to verify the boycott is working, and let folks know about it.

@quest - I think Argonaut is open at 5. The Pug opens at 5 sometimes but maybe that is only Fridays. You could try the bar at Sticky Rice, and Toyland is open at 5.

There are some dice games in the alleys around H.

This is a bummer. My birthday is on Saturday and I was looking forward to trying this place. Open Soon Biergarten. Does anyone know if they will have "daytime" hours and if kids will be welcome like the Biergarten in Astoria.

I think a biergarten is where german folk drink out side and a beer garden is where possums and racoons hold their summit meetings about controling trinidad and the atlas district. Unfortunately, i'm packing up the pug's fooseball table. We do have connect 4 and rockem sockem robots but they are often broken because you kids won't let me have anything nice. Maybe during the h st fest we can set up a stick ball field in auto inforcement zone lot.

Tony T-

What time do you guys open on the weekdays?

Cadro said...

@Anon 10:05:
Obviously you were NOT taught how to use punctuation correctly.

Also, kiss my ass.

Anonymous said...

i think i don't open 'til 6 on weekdays, and about 430 on fridays. and if anyone's doing any ass kissing it will be all us bar folk because we need your continued support during this construction phase of our lives. still won't make any shooters but we'll be happy to see you.

the pug
ps when toki underground opens, the pug will be open all day.

s said...

tonyt - are you really taking away the fooseball table? I agree that it is greatly under utilized, but I do enjoy a game every now and then. Sad.

Dave B said...

Can I buy the foosball table?

Foosball is underrated. It takes a while to get good at and when you do it is much more fun.

Anonymous said...

Sorry dave b. foos table was a lease. I'll check with the vendor though. Loved having it, my daughter's not gonna be happy but it was taking too much space. If we want to get a proper people vs. possum stickball league going, i need more space at the pug.

Sticky Rice, Star and Shamrock, Ethiopic,Liberty Tree, and Taylor are all open for lunch and stay open. Not all of those are exactly "bars," but there's life on H Street before 5.

not on parker said...

We very clearly need Galaga somewhere on H Street.

Does anyone know if they will have "daytime" hours and if kids will be welcome like the Biergarten in Astoria...

I would venture to guess the large majority of their customers would not want kids at the biergarten except during "daytime hours". Capitol Hill moms have already infiltrated enough places in our area...
