Intersections 2011

Intersections arts festival at the Atlas is currently seeking performers for the 2011 festival. Details below:

New INTERSECTIONS

Break Boundaries. Create Connections.

February 25 - March 13, 2011
Atlas Performing Arts Center
1333 H Street NE * Washington, DC 20002

Building on the success of INTERSECTIONS 2010, the Atlas announces its second annual all-arts festival celebrating the dynamic artistic and cultural crossroads of our community and world. Through theater, dance, music, film, opera, visual art, spoken word and conversation, we will bring together diverse artists and audiences from throughout DC and beyond to break boundaries and create connections in our intimate performance spaces, festive lobby and café.

Individual artists, performing companies and cultural organizations:

Does your work innovatively explore an artistic or cultural Intersection?

If so, we invite you to propose a performance or presentation for

INTERSECTIONS 2011.

What are we looking for? The possibilities are as far reaching as your art. Could be a collaboration among artists of different disciplines pushing the boundaries of your form. A play, film or poetry event exploring the subject/theme of cultural connections. A concert of one musical genre intersecting with another. A remix by dancers of different traditions. A film paired with a concert or talk-back. An intergenerational dance company or orchestra. An interactive lobby event. These are possibilities. We welcome your ideas and innovations. We are especially interested in work that reflects the cultural and personal intersections of being a first generation or new American. Performances of works previously produced are eligible.

Here's what happens:

*The Atlas covers the cost of your performance space rental, one tech rehearsal, a theater manager, two crew members, house management, box office and marketing your performance.

*Performers/presenters cover all expenses to get the event "in the door" of the Atlas (all performers fees, all production costs.) Your commitment is to partner with the Atlas to market directly to your audiences through your own publications, mailing lists and the media.

*Performers/presenters will receive the proceeds of the box office, less a negotiated percentage for the Atlas. Ticket prices will be set by the Atlas in consultation with the performers.

*Modest stipends will be available for certain performances that are free or for a nominal charge.

*Performances/events may be one-offs or multiple performances throughout the festival.

To apply: Visit www.intersectionsdc.org or www.atlasarts.org to download proposal form or email intersectionsdc@aol.com to request an emailed or hard copy. Proposals and all accompanying materials are due June 18th, 2010.

The Intersections 2009 Festival was astonishingly successful. Maybe it didn't get nearly enough love from the community that it deserved, but the city noticed!
if you have friends in the arts, please encourage them to talk to the Festival.
Thanks to the Atlas for making it happen on H Street!
