We all know how bad the construction on most of H Street is right. But the key is to remember that there will be a payoff in the end. Check out this post from
Prince of Petworth looking at before and after photos of street construction on the outside of the Sticky Fingers Bakery. Yes, in the earlier photo, that is actually caution tape attached to the door of the bakery.
One day H Street too will be after photo worthy.

What I find remarkable is how the new sidewalks (at least the ones that are installed) seem to really highlight just how crappy some of the business facades are on H St.
Specifically, Fashion One.
The new sidewalks are great but some of these crappy businesses really need to shape up or ship out.
On the other hand, the sidewalks really add to the well-kept facades (like Nuveau Fluer, for example).
I dont think Fashion One is long for this world. Their lease is up and they arent renewing it. That building has a very deep basement. Would be a perfect spot for a gym. Start spreading the word.
Oh my God, a gym would be amaaazing! I'm probably going to want to join a gym in the next few months, but if I knew one were coming to H St, I could hold off (or pay more for month-to-month).
speaking of the gym, the woman in the photo clearly goes. lookin good, girl!

i walked from north capitol to 13th along h a few weeks ago and was just AMAZED at how good things were looking. i hadn't done that full walk in maybe a year. the sidewalks, the new streetlights, new signage. when this is all said and done, h street will be one of the most beautiful stretches in the city.
Which part on H st has their sidewalks completed? I've only been between Argo and 11th street..the sidewalks are still torn up pretty bad.
But yeah, when all this is done H st will look amazing. I know it will be well worth the nasty construction blocking everything over the next year or so.
Sidewalks are mostly done on the north side of H between 3rd and 10th. And they do look really great. . . .
But why must it take so long? Can't they finish one block before tearing up eight more? This is beyond absurd.
the improvements on the sidewalk stop at roughly the middle of the 1000 block and inexplably appear to pick up again at the corner of 12th and h (haven't walked the 1200 block yet, just noticed that the eastern part of the 1100 block, where naby's is, looks partially finished with cutouts presumably for new tree boxes
walked past taylor and they had a sign up saying their liquor license had been revoked for two days. talked to someone at the counter and he seemed to be saying the problem was they got caught failing to card someone? he said "license issues" and made the universal hand gesture for drivers license.
I'm puzzled...why is the embossed street designation for 8th Street NE in the middle of the 800-block (even side?
But why must it take so long? Can't they finish one block before tearing up eight more? This is beyond absurd.
Stand out there and watch what they are doing...it's a very slow process...period.
It never ceases to amaze me just how little the general public understands about the construction process. Do you think they can just squat down and crap out a completely finished product in a month? Um..no. This aint "pimp my backyard" where you get a miraculous turnaround in a 30 min episode. There was almost a full year pf underground utility work done throughout the whole H/Benning corridor before the first piece of streetcar track was even fabricated. Get realistic, my friends.
