Sticky Rice Moves on Expansion Plans

We also have an ABRA notice from Sticky Rice that the restaurant wants to expand into the basement and second floor of the adjacent rowhouse. The rowhouse was most recently a church. Sticky Rice commonly has a wait on weekend nights, so this should help out in that respect.

This will be good, so more people can recieve bad service by super hipsters who have no on waiting tables.

@Anon 12:42am- I'm not a "hipster" but always get good service at Sticky Rice, I go pretty often too. IMO this is great news

I gotta go with Anon 12:42 on this one.

Re: expansion. How are they going to handle extra seating with that tiny kitchen? They have major problems serving the tables they already have.

Also agree with the first comment: I've been there many times, each time hoping the service gets better. It remains consistently abysmal.

I’ve been there several times and the service has always been pretty good. One of the first times I went there with a couple of friends from out of town. They had no clue what to order and so the server kept making suggestions. We just kept ordering what she suggested and everything was really good. These days the place is packed a lot so I usually just sit at the bar and order. The food and drinks get to you really fast hat way.

I dont have a problem with the service, but the at least one time they didnt cook the rice for the sushi fully. I mean, really, you cant cook rice... at a sushi place? I'll give it a few more chances tho.

matthew,

I noticed the app is for expansion to the basements and 2nd floor. Maybe the kitchen is expanding onto the other building's 1st floor?

Perhaps they can also use some of that space for additional sushi rollers. The food is good, I love the atmosphere, but the service is always terrible, often from the kitchen, but it is exceptionally rare to get sushi in a reasonable amount of time.

StantonSez: i'm with the other commenters re bad service. i've stopped going there. i've gone five different times, early and late and each time food took forever and was completely underwhelming, so i've given up on Sticky.
that said, i respect the view from others who view this as the best place ever. and i also hear there are tons of folks from elsewhere in the city who come for the late night clubbing at Sticky Rice.
every place isn't for everyone.
good luck to them.

I hope they are expanding the kitchen...I've tried to order take-out twice, and been rejected twice. The first time, on a Saturday night at 8:30pm, they said they weren't accepting any orders because their kitchen wasn't big enough to handle both in-person diners and take-out. The next week I called at 5:30pm on a Saturday (when they admitted they were not busy yet) and tried to use a Living Social coupon. Even though there was no language restricting the coupon to dine-in only, they refused to let me use it for carry-out because they didn't want to encourage carry-out.

So I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel that service soon.

I'd really like to eat at Sticky Rice. But they're not making it easy on parents who just want to eat their food without having to drag their kids in or pay a lot to a babysitter.
