With the exception of Ethiopic and possibly Granville's, doesn't a meal run $15 max at most of these places? Maybe they should do $2.01 appys or something else instead.

Biergarten Haus food continues to be ridiculously overpriced. Two sausages, sauerkraut, a small salad, and a strudel for more than $20, and I'm supposed to believe this is a deal?! Please.
I agree that Biergarten Haus is overpriced, considering that the food is really, really bland. I was there with a large group last night and I think everyone walked out feeling like they were ripped off. I hope the owners read this blog and take these comments to heart.
Interesting concept, too bad it runs the same time as the actual DC Summer Restaurant Week. I guess for the last minute folks this is cool. It may be smarter to run right after the real R week. I could use this as a way to encourage people to come to H. Now they are just battling with the others. I don't understand our need to reinvent the wheel. Best of of luck however, I'll be doing the real DC Summer Restaurant Week.
Granville and Liberty Tree are both really good deals with Liberty Tree offering the whole menu. Other places may not be as good but you still save at least 5 bucks a person for what they offer.

Tab after tip was $90.
The service was very good, which is rare in DC these days. The woman that greeted and served us was really great (sorry, can't remember her name.... young black woman who may have been a bartender as well).
And the beer was outstanding (some sort of chocolate-y thing).
But the meat and cheese platter appetizer for $15 was disappointing. Two sortof indistinguishable types of meat, one bland mustard choice, and two bland cheeses.
But the tiny pickles were tasty.
My dining partner's wienerschnitzel was average at best. Nothing wrong with it. Just not a lot of flavor.
My sausage platter was just ok.
The potato pancake that came with it was dang near inedible. So deep fried and tough that I almost didn't notice it was totally without flavor.
One pet peeve - the mustard that accompanied the appetizer and meal was, to put it mildly, mild.
I'd go back, but only for beer and general debauchery.
For food, I'd go to Cafe Berlin instead. Prices are about the same, and the food is more interesting.
I was at Biergarten Haus a few weeks ago. Paid for a round of shots for 2 other friends and had 3 beers. Total after tip was $68. Way too pricey for me. Because of their high prices I'll probably only go there once a month at the most. I'll stick to the other H st bars until they change their prices or at least offer some kind of happy hour.
I went with two friends to Biergarten for the first time last week. We got a few beers, pretzels, a plate of potato pancakes, and split the three wurst platter. Basically a few beers and a few plates to share. The total was almost $100 and we left hungry.
The service was good, the beer was decent, but the food was blander than bland. And we had to sit next to the disgusting outdoor restrooms with a view of the mens urinals.
I mean, we could have probably paid $150 and left full. But for that price, we could go to a place like Jaleo, order a bottle of wine, and had far, far better food and atmosphere.
I've been to Biergarten Haus four times, including recently taking my parents there from out of town. I've had great food and service every time. Their brunch is also excellent - some of the best blueberry pancakes around.
In my one visit to BH, I was welcomed by an incredibly rude, roid-ridden guido doorman and a completely apathetic bartender. The vibe was so unwelcoming that I left after a few seconds of discussing the beer menu with the bartender.
It almost makes one wistful for the days of going to the Argonaut and being sneered at by the owners and waitstaff.
Germans are not known to be the friendliest of people. Lets face it, Germans are arrogant and hate Americans and are not shy about displaying their distaste whenever they get a chance.
Well, it's quite possible that I simply misinterpreted incredibly poor service and complete indifference to my patronage as being contemptuous enough to merit description as sneering.
I don't expect to be feted when I go to a pub, but I also don't expect to be looked at like I've been dipped in crap, either.
I have to agree with others that the food at the biergarten is stunningly mediocre and overpriced. But the service and the atmosphere were really good. And the beer is reasonable. Order a liter and you're getting almost 3 beers for 12 bucks.
I also think the brunch is really great - and the food is waaaay better than the disgusting fare served up at Cafe Berlin. The only restaurant on that strip that has decent food is Bistro Cacao - all the others are very poor but get away with it because of their patios.

I've always thought Cafe Berlin was overpriced, but the food can often be very good. Particularly their specials, which range from asparagus specials in summer to weird things like bison and reindeer in winter.
Their menu is much more extensive than BH.
And they have a pretty wide dessert selection, which is made daily.
Their lunch soup and sandwich specials are one of the best deals on the Hill, at around $8 I think.
I sometimes leave there at night thinking I paid a little too much, but generally the food is pretty good.
Geez, people, it was just a plug. Put the fangs away! BH might be a little overpriced for the food, but I really enjoy the atmosphere and the beer.
As an H Street employee/resident and German (who's NICE btw and not arrogant * ahem * cuz really, American...that was a ridiculously ignorant pseudo-racist statement) I appreciate what BH brings to the neighborhood.
As for sneering from the Argonaut staff, Tubbs, trust that IF you aren't either making that up or completely misinterpreting it there was a darn good reason for it. I'm inclined to tell you to get over yourself.

I said SOME of the deals are for two people. Some are for one person. It depends on the restaurant's normal price point.

I second their brunch. Its amazing. and their blueberry pancakes are some of the best I've had in DC.

Whilst my service was great, honestly I did sortof get the vibe that this venture was more of an Adams Morgan East haunt.
Jeesh, tough crowd. I give the group credit for putting this together. As a neighbor, I'm glad they are offering something that parallels R-Week.
