The team from Tacos Impala may have moved on to dumplings and ramen, but
Philadelphia Water Ice (which reopens today) wants to cater to any lingering taco cravings. According to a
tweet from @capitolhilldc PWI will supplement its normal menu of water ices, and philadelphia cheesesteaks with tacos and quesadillas. US Capitol cater Chef Santos will handle the latin fare.

too bad the tacos suck.
Great news! Will the tacos be the same? They are AMAZING! I hope the new chef will get the recipe from the old crew.
+1 don't lose the red sauce!
I'm glad to see the best cheesesteak in the city is back!
3.00 taco that tastes like garbage...move along
Never thought I would say their cheese steaks are a step up
tacos impala had it goin on this past winter, pwi is keeping tacos on the menu, a smart idea. i wonder if the person posting these negative comments has even tried either version of the tacos or just a hater??
Hater.
Smart to keep tacos on the menu since people are used to getting them.
Did a quick Google search "Capitol caterer Chef Santos" and didn't find a lot of solid hits, can anyone post up a link with good info on Chef Santos? I'd research more, but I have to get breakfast and then hit the campaign trail!
I stopped by Friday about 8 pm for a cheesesteak. The window on the street was closed, but the door was open. There was only a kid there. Nobody cooking, and he had no idea when they'd be back.
Today they had plastic pennants strung up outside from the front of the store to the lamp post. Illegal. And they were starting to droop after they got wet from the rain. There wasn't anyone there to serve food.
Guess they're back to their old customer service on the very first day. Damned shame since they make good cheesesteaks.
Wish PWI would get their act together.
+1. Love PWI's cheesesteaks, hate the inconsistent hours.
FYI, Evil Danny's, Lucky Carryout, and Great Wall do a decent non-SteakUms version if you tell them to hold the L/T/M, but it isn't really the same.
Monkeyrotica brings up an excellent point. Why is it standard practice in DC to include lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on a cheesesteak? Beside frizzled beef and cheese, the only ingredient that should be assumed to be included is onion.
@rayful
Here's a brief history of the DC variant known as the "steak & cheese" as opposed to the Philly cheesesteak.

L/T/M comes standard on the steak & cheese, but you can also get it in Philly, where it's known as a "cheesesteak hoagie."
@monkeyrotica,
very nice. Thanks.
i hope they clean up the inside. it never looks real clean in there
