More on Pho Bar & Grill

Bubble Tea

I recently interviewed part of the team behind Pho Bar and Grill, which hopes to open in early fall at 1360 H Street (formerly the home of Sweets and Treats). Here's the basic rundown:

Two dining floors with a full bar on the second floor. They'll serve pho and banh mi (as previously reported by @HStreetDC the prices will start at $9 and $6 respectively), as well as traditional items from the Vietnamese grill (lots of rice and noodle dishes). They will also offer spring rolls, and probably some tasty spring salads. Drinks? But of course! At least one beer on tap, and also some nice bottles from which to choose. One is guaranteed to be the Tiger (Singapore). You'll also be able to order up some Vietnamese coffee, or bubble tea. The owners plan to offer delivery and carryout options. I can also say that plans for a roof deck are in the works. The three partners are excited about H Street's future, and proud to offer up some healthy dining options at affordable prices. Anticipated operating hours: 11am-11pm Sunday-Thursday with later hours on weekends.

Want more info on this place? Pick up a copy of the Hill Rag, and check out my monthly column H Street Life. It's free and available all over H Street, and the Capitol Hill area.

Beyond excited for this new addition to H St! Especially the option of delivery: being too hungover to make the 4 block walk.

can they please rename this place Pho Shizzle?

No Joel, they can not. Pho is not pronounced like the word "Foe" so your silly word play you seem so pleased with doesn't make any sense. sorry.

Just and FYI, Tiger Beer is from Singapore.

@snowpantalones, plenty of pho places do a similar play on words. Much like the word "crepe", everyone here pronounces it the Americanized way unless they're a pedantic snob.

Now I know I'll get a lot of grief for saying this, but I do hope this place offer a vegetarian pho. No, it's not authentic, but I've had a version with tofu and broccoli that was so much tastier than the traditional kinds with meat.

All aboard the Ignorance Train Caroline is driving it straight to Pho Shizzle. Respect for foreign cultures be dammed, we're in America, after all!

Just because 'pho' isn't pronounced "foe" doesn't mean they can't do the play on words. The correct pronunciation, which is something like "Fuh", sounds perfectly good too.

'Fuh Shizzle' sounds just as good or better than 'Foe Shizzle, IMO, although 'shizzle' is pretty stupid, even though it already exists in California:

Another play on words would be much better. If not this, then Pho (number) would still be better than 'Pho Bar & Grill'.
