ABC7: Man Gets 20 Years in 2009 Bus Shooting

ABC7 reports that 19 year old Jeffrey Britt was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison for the 2009 murder of George Rawlings as Rawlings attempted to board a mid-day bus in the 1400 block of H Street. Rawlings had just left the funeral of a friend at Capitol Mortuary (behind the Argo) o on Maryland Avenue. Two other men have pled guilty in the 2009 shooting, and await sentencing. I believe the theory was that Rawlings was shot because others thought he had played a role in the murder of the friend who's funeral he had just attended. George Rawlings was the older brother of Deonte Rawlings, who was shot in the back by off duty MPD officers in 2007.

True. If he'd done this a few miles south in Virginia, he'd be in line for the chair or needle.
