In happier neighborhood news, is HR 57 relocating to a bigger space at 1007 H St NE (next to Willpower)? That space used to be a church, but there is heavy construction going on inside, a liquor license application is outside (with applicant listed as HR 57) and apparently the Class C Liquor License (Tavern) sought was discussed at a hearing on March 12.

Anyone have more info?

Wylie, see this post Inked made a little while ago.

They are moving, and the space they occupy now will become a Cafe with lives blues, poetry, etc. Very exciting. I hope they both thrive.

As for the stabbing, I came by there on the X2 a little while after and it seems the police had made an arrest.

arguable the most shady block on the strip at night. i hate walking it.

also, driving last night, i saw 3 hoodlums harass an old lady on 3rd street just north of H. she swung her purse at them. i didn't know what was happening. i was in my car. i didn't roll down the window, but i gave those 3 kids the death stare. they kept moving...

Next Tuesday, April 3, (7-8 PM) MPD Chief Cathy Lanier has agreed to meet with the community at Options Charter School, 1375 E Street NE to discuss the alarming increase in robberies, including an increase in armed robberies, that seems to be concentrated in our area.

It's unfortunate that these incidences make one hesitant to step outside for a walk after dinner on a nice day. It's almost as if our basic freedom has been infringed upon. Seems like we are living in some sort of lawless country and this is supposed to be the nation's capital!

Grrrrrr... you're a true internet hero. Don't stop your car or delay yourself by a minute, just stare out your window as you role by three thugs harassing an old lady. Must be some stare.

*roll* dang it

SURPRISE! That corner is so ghetto with the element that is pulled there by that bus stop and the chicken place.

Buzz, like I said, I didn't know what was happening. The lady swung her purse, yelled at them, and they kept moving. I was letting them know that I had witnessed them and saw their faces. I wasn't about to get out of my car and confront them, or let them follow my car home and find out where I live. For all I know they had weapons on them. If anyone is a hero, it's you. Armchair quarterbacking from the comfort of your home. Give me a break.

Also, it's a pretty intense stare. You'd probably shit your pants

I swear, the people on this blog keep getting nastier and more unreasonable and more petty with each other. Result of the stress of all the increased crime? Of the depressed economy? Resentment that Whole Foods hasn't moved in to replace H Street Connection yet?

Would you treat your neighbors this way if you were face to face with them? Give everybody a break - they're all making decisions that are right for them, based on their experiences, their comfort level, and a whole host of things that no one else can see unless they were right there and unless they know the person well enough to understand where they are coming from.

And that goes to all of you who are incessangly criticizing inked for having her labor of love not live up to your expectations about how you think she should run it.

Somewhere along the line, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" has become a forgotten but much-missed value.
