Express Loves H Street
H Street spots knocked it out of the park this year with Express' Best Of awards (readers' choice). Here are the winners:
Dining:
Toki Underground (2nd floor of 1234 H Street) was named best new restaurant.
Dangerously Delicious Pies (1339 H Street) took home top honors for pies.
Sticky Rice (1224 H Street) got the most votes for favorite sushi restaurant. The tator tots are also pretty good.
Taylor Gourmet (1116 H Street) was crowned king of the sandwiches. Look for their new cheesesteak spot to open in December.
Ethiopic (WEBSITE PLAYS MUSIC 401 H Street) took home the 2nd place for best Ethiopian food in DC.
Arts:
The Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street) got the nod for third best small theater.
DC Life:
The X2 bus took home third place for best bus line. I'm sensing that this might be related to its notorious reputation.
Nightlife:
Biergarten Haus (1355 H Street) was the top choice for outdoor drinking.
The Pug (1234 H Street) showed its chops with the title for number 2 dive bar.
H Street Country Club (1335 H Street) is the best bar for those who like to play games. They's got skee-ball, mini-golf, and more.
Kids:
Argonaut (1433 H Street) took home the runner-up for best restaurant for kids.
Shopping:
Metro Mutts (508 H Street) walked away with the best pet store award.

Sticky Rice for best sushi? Don't make me laugh.
I'm surprised there were no awards for amazing service!
Or best neighborhood blog written by person without a real job!
I was a shoo-in for best crawlspace, but they axed that category at the last minute. Bastards.
1:16,
Best Neighborhood Blog went to Prince of Petworth.
god, now I can't get that song out of my head. You know, the one that goes: "hey, I just met you...and this is crazy, but here's my basement...I'm John Wayne Gacy!" What a great tune for summer that was.
the key to a good neighborhood blog is to sell/distribute t-shirts then have people spontaneaously pack them for vacation, spontaneously (am i spelling this right?) take them with them on a hike or bus ride to a scenic spot, and then spont'ly put that shirt on and pose with their back to the camera as they gaze upon the scenery. then treat the whole experience as though it was a happenstance such as finding a crazy shirt you donated ten years ago upon a poor child in a remote village. because really, what are the chances that someone of means buys your shirt, pays for a vacation, then brings the shirt along just to wear in a picture. its like the shirt just travels the globe and is not intentionally brought along for a specific purpose.
Cool story bro
Argonaut was also 2nd place as most kid friendly restaurant!
Metro Mutts took the WIN for Best Pet Shop! http://www.expressnightout.com/2012/10/best-of-2012-shopping/
... and still more press for H Street restaurants:
How Taylor could have won anything is beyond me. Their food has gone to crap in the last 6 months. Their rolls are garbage, the chicken is dry, and the salads are swimming in dressing.
