You Might Want to Avoid That McDonald's
WUSA9 reports on really disgusting conditions at the McDonald's Express located at 841 H Street (in the H Street Connection). We're talking mice, roaches, burger buns kept in the bathroom, storing chicken at the wrong temperature, operating without hot water, dirty soda nozzles, a sewage backup, and generally unsanitary conditions. You can read the news report here. Here's a response from that McDonald's franchisee.
Thanks to reader Kenny G. for leaving this in the comments.

i doubt people that put mcdonalds food into their body will really care.
I went there to eat once a few years back and have to say i was pretty disgusted. The place seemed cramped and dirty, they didn't have half the stuff on their menu, and homeless people kept coming in and out asking for free food or money. I am quite surprised that I did not get sick while eating there. Needless to say, I have never been back there to eat. If i do eat McDonald's I go to the one on Benning Rd. But after reading this article I have to wonder if that one is clean either. I may just stay away from all the McDonald's and fast food establishments in this area.
Never went there, but then again I don't eat McDonald's at all. It's sad to hear about these allegations. Everyone should have the right to expect basic sanitary practices at a food establishment. SMH.
if thats the qualifying criteria, most of us wouldnt be eating at almost ANY spot on h street...including sewage backups, rodents, improper temperatures, etc. just pray you have a strong immune system...
Seriously people. Sometimes I wonder about the mental capacity of some members of the FT audience. H&D does not have soda nozzles. They have no rats. They have hot water. They do not store consumables in a bathroom. They do not have sewage backups. Etc., etc., etc......
That's why they will stay. That's why they've stayed. There's no comparison with that crappy Mickey Dees.
Some folks need to get out more.
Or maybe just go out, period.... Back to Ohio or Iowa, or from wherever they hail in the Midwest...
Im from NY and I think Horace and Dickies looks gross. I only mention the NY thing because PooPoo seems to think the opinion of coastal peoples is valid.

BAHAHAHAHAHA why would anyone eat here in the first place with so many other great local places around?
Because it's the number restaurant in the world! :)
because it's cheap and it tastes good.
Please, please make the H Street Connection go away.
"Because it's the number restaurant in the world! :)"
no it isn't. not by any metric, except, MAYBE, brand recognition. or lawsuits.
Because you can get full for $3. Not exactly possible at the latest trendy restaurant, Mitt Romney.
That place is gross. I like the drive through one over on NY ave. that way I can drive and avoid those nasty people loitering at 8th and K.
i eat there all the time for breakfast and never got sick, once i was sold expired OJ tho(3 months expired)
The McDonald's on Benning Road is usually pretty clean and much newer.

You can search dept of health inspection reports for our local restaurants online. Interesting reading.

Also, by the metric of of sales, in which it is in fact number 1. It takes about 2 seconds to just google these kind of facts.
(By the way, I'm eating a double cheeseburger right now, from the McD's on Benning Rd.)

How does Horace and Dickies stay open?
Makes you wonder how H & D stays open and that Mickey Ds needs to leave ...
