A Vegan Winner at Batter Bowl Bakery
I stopped by Batter Bowl Bakery (403 H Street) for an early lunch one recent steamy morning. Due to the heat, I wanted something light. I settled on the Eighth Street ($6.25, served with a salad of mixed greens), which is an open-faced sandwich with hummus, chick peas, green pepper, garlic, scallions, capers, avocado, cherry tomatoes, lemon juice, and fresh cracked pepper (on freshly baked bread). Light and refreshing, it might just be the perfect summer meal.

That sandwich is gentrifying the neighborhood! And it's probably full of salt!

That sandwich is delicious and easily one of the best veggie sandwiches on h street... not sure how a sandwich can gentrify a neighborhood! what does that even mean?
