Local hardware store W.S. Jenks & Son (910 Bladensburg Road) has all sorts of things you might need for the house and garden, but up until now it's been a tad tricky to get over there during open hours. To better accommodate customers Jenks is adding some much requested Sunday hours and staying open a little later on weeknights.
Here are the new hours:
Mon-Fri: 7:30AM-7PM
Sat: 9AM-5PM
Sun: 10AM-4PM

Great news - I still haven't made it out there, mostly because of the limited hours. Definitely will go check them out now.
Also, I think you mean 910 Bladensburg Road, not H St.
The folks there are great. Incredibly helpful and the place is well stocked and comfortable. Highly recommend folks go.
Kate,
Yes. Thanks. Hadn't had my coffee yet!

Wow, they finally figured out that people who have real jobs can't come in during those hours.
^ ....they are getting their stock together and getting a better foot hold into the community.

What it means is they are expanding their market.
WS Jenks has for the longest time been focused
on tradesmen and commercial clients, they've decided to see if they can get retail
Contractors, builders, electricians, plumbers = real jobs.
I've been in there a few times and each time I am constantly blown away by the great customer service and the quality/variety of items they carry for home owners and contractors.
You all definitely need to check this place out.
Nice.
Anyone know whether they refill propane tanks (i.e., the kind for gas bbq grills)?
I'm so sick of getting mine filled at the R.I. Home Depot. It is always such a process. Would be nice to go somewhere closer to home that doesn't involve waiting 20 minutes for someone to get you your new propane tank bc the automated system is always broken.
Apparently they are too close to the Capitol to carry propane. It's odd that Fragers can carry it, but Jenks can not. Maybe Fragers was grandfathered in somehow.
Use Propane Taxi. They deliver to your door and exchange empties, and it's the same price as Home Depot or most places.
When I last talked to them about this, the issue was not proximity to the capitol as one supplier told them but they have to sort out storage issues. Can't store the propane tanks in the building so they would need a secure location that can't be tampered with, etc. Not sure if they worked that out.
do they have lawn and garden stuff? - Rick
Rick,
They do indeed. Just no live plants this year.
