October Events at the Rosedale Library
The Rosedale Library (1701 Gales Street) has a ton of fun events coming up in October. You'll find a complete list below:
Ongoing Programs
Story Time - Mondays and Wednesdays at 10am — Children ages birth to 5 (and their caretakers) can enjoy songs, stories, and action rhymes. (NO Story Time Oct. 12th)
Youth Chess Club – Every Monday and Wednesday, 3 to 4:30pm – Learn to play from an experienced instructor and play games with your friends. (NO Chess Oct. 12th)
Special October Programs
Dinosaur Story Time - Saturday, October 2nd at 10am – Celebrate Fossil Appreciation Day with a dinosaur-themed story time and craft session. (Ages 4 and up)
Build a Tree - Tuesday, October 6th at 4pm – Come help create the leaves and tree for the Rosedale fall display. (Ages 4 to 12)
Hispanic Heritage Story Time - Wednesday, October 7th at 4pm – Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with books by Latino writers and illustrators.
Film Screening: "Half of a Yellow Sun” - Sunday, October 11th at 2:15pm - Join us for a screening of award-winning author Chiamanda Ngozi’s Adichie movie “Half of a Yellow Sun” - an adaptation of her book about the historic Biafran war. This African-themed movie series is co-sponsored by IPI’s “Culture in Your Community” series.
Dinosaur Story Time - Tuesday, October 12th at 4pm – Dinosaurs are SO BIG that we’re celebrating them again with stories and crafts. (Ages 4 and up)
Spooky Movie Night - Tuesday, October 20th at 4:30pm – Celebrate Halloween early with a movie based on the very popular R.L. Stine book, “Goosebumps”! (Ages 10 and up)
Film Screening: "Mama C: Urban Warrior in the African Bush" - Sunday, October 25th at 2pm - This award-winning film, "Mama C: Urban Warrior in the African Bush" chronicles the story of Mama C, an African-American woman from Kansas City who became a community activist and member of the revolutionary Black Panther party in the 1960s. She helped lead protests to force the local administration to recognize the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King. This film will be followed a discussion. This film series is co-sponsored by IPI’s Culture In Your Community Series.
Reel Reading Book Club - Tuesday, October 27th at 5pm – Kids read a book each month, then on the last Tuesday of the month, they watch the movie the book inspired.
Halloween Craft Night - Thursday, October 29th at 4pm – Start Halloween a little early with a special Halloween craft! (Ages 4 and up).
Spooky Story Time - Saturday, October 31st at 10am – Ready for Halloween? Children can enjoy some spooky stories and songs! (Ages 4 and up).
