I am the playwright/director of Stay Awake, a theatre performance designed for audiences ages 2 - 4 and their grown up friends, which runs at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC from Oct 2 - 12.   Combining live cello music, movement, puppets, and a colorful high-flying piece of kinetic art (a mobile), Stay Awake was developed to be just the right experience for young children — with a gentle story and fun participation.  The story follows the  fantastical journey that awaits a child and her dog when their familiar bedtime ritual is thrown delightfully off-balance. Our school performances are almost sold out, but we are eager for your readers to know about our public performances.  Tickets are $9 for children and adults, $5 for a group of 20 or more.

Tickets can be purchased online, or through the Box Office (202.399.7993 ext. 2).

Director Mary Hall Surface is a Helen Hayes Award winning director and playwright with international experience creating theatre for children. She recently authored an article for DC Theatre Scene about the art form of Theatre for the Very Young. Please note that Stay Awake features one of the fabulous mobiles created through the collaboration of community members and Kevin Reese as part of the Mobilizing Our Community project.

We are pleased to offer theatre for this age group -- a big part of the demographic of the neighborhood!
