Local News Brief: Hitchcock at the Angelika, Louisiana Flood Fundraiser, & an REI Update

As Halloween draws ever closer, so does Hitchcocktober at the Angelika pop up (550 Penn St.). Classic films from the master of suspense shine on the big screen every Thursday in October. This year's line-up includes The Birds, Suspicion, Dial M for Murder, The Trouble With Harry, and Psycho. Tickets are $7 (plus a $1.50 service fee).

Some local residents who originally hail from Louisiana have put together a fundraiser at Little Miss Whiskey's (1104 H St.) to support victims of the flooding in that state. 100% of proceeds will go to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation's Louisiana Flood Relief Fund. $20 gets you three drink tickets and a raffle entry for prizes to be awarded during the event. The fundraiser will be held tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 8) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Louisiana native Aqualita Brown of Smokin' on the Bayou will cater the event. Please keep in mind that Little Miss Whiskey's is a cash only bar (there's a Bank of America ATM next door).

Twitter follower @CapitolHillPhil, who attended last night's ANC 6C Parks and Events Committee meeting, says that an REI representative dispelled rumors that the NoMa store might have a kayak pool or rock climbing wall. On the other hand, the representative also revealed that an "East Coast coffee shop chain" is coming to the store.

Do you mean tomorrow, September 8th for the fundraiser? Or is it next month?

An REI without a climbing wall, but with a coffee shop? Of course.
