MPD has released the name of the victim in yesterday's early morning homicide in the 900 block of 10th Street as 39 year-old Eugene Clarke of Temple Hills, MD. Police responded to a call for gunshots a little before 4 a.m. and found Mr. Clarke unconscious, unresponsive, and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Arriving medical personnel could find no signs of life, and Mr. Clarke was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.

I live on this block. The police came by for a statement, but all I can say is that I was woken up by 5-6 gunshots around 3am. But I didn't call them. It's not out of the realm of regular occurrences.
Same re: not calling in the gun shots, which given the fatality, I feel like shit about but considering what cops reported, no amount of help would have saved the victim. Still taken aback that anyone was out -- let alone shooting someone else -- given the rain that was coming down when we checked our window immediately during the shooting. Other than our neighbors also checking the street after the shots, there were no peds out at the time. It's been a quiet 18 mos on our block too, relative to the past, so somewhat disappointing and hopefully isolated.
Shame that all this shooting still goes on 10 years after the neighborhood started developing

Pat, there's a Eugene Clarke (with the right birthday & from Temple Hills) with a lengthy criminal history in MD and DC for drugs & assault. Might be the same person.
