It's Pub Quiz season at the Queen Vic

Do you have a child who will be starting school in the District of Columbia next year? There are lots of opportunities to learn more about our local schools, whether that means a visit during classroom hours, or chatting with current parents.

The J.O. Wilson Elementary Parent Teacher Association invites prospective parents to J.O. Wilson Night Out at Ben's Chili Bowl (1001 H St.) Tuesday, Feb 7. Dine that night between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. and use the code CARDINAL, and Ben's will donate 10% back to the PTA. J.O. Night is the first Tuesday of every month, so try them next month if you can't make it tomorrow.

J.O. Wilson Elementary (660 K St.) will also host an open house this Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All prospective parents are invited to attend.

Browne Education Campus (850 26th St.) offers school tours every third Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Call 202-671-6210 for details.

In crime news there were two local shootings early Saturday morning. The first of those took place at 1:12 a.m. in the 500 block of Florida Avenue. No lookout information was provided in the alert.

Then there was a second shooting about 3:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of I Street. According to an email sent by an MPD representative to a local listserv the victim was transported to a hospital for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested a man for robbing the Family Dollar at (1121 H St.) a little before 9 a.m. Sunday. The suspect, who robbed the store while wearing a green jacket, blue jeans, and a black ski mask, was arrested when officers spotted him at the intersection of 16th and D Street. Police recovered evidence and the stolen cash.

Pubquiz2017

Shifting back towards the fun side of things, The Queen Vic (1206 H St.) kicks off an other season of a Right Royal Pub Quiz starting tomorrow. Grand Prize for the season is a trip for two to Dublin, and they'll also be giving away lots of fun weekly prizes along the way. This pub quiz also features Jameson drink specials to go along with its whiskey sponsor. "International Men of Quizzery" Eric and David will be your hosts for this odyssey. Assemble your team of two to four players (all of whom must be at least 21 years of age) and head down for a weekly challenge every Tuesday from Feb. 7 through April 25. Game play starts at 7:30 p.m., but get there early to stay out a good spot and order a bit of food and drink to fortify yourself. Check the Facebook page for full details and rules.
