Booze News: ABRA Points of Interest

P1010114
The license for Family Liquor (shown in this 2005 photo) will remain in safekeeping for now

Lots of news comes our way from the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) this week.

The Elroy (1423 H St.) has applied for a substantial change to its license. The addition to its existing entertainment endorsement would permit the tavern to charge a cover and allow dancing.

There's a new tavern (CT) license application from Escape Restaurant and Lounge at 2040 West Virginia Ave in Ivy City. The application describes a seafood restaurant with seating for 100 patrons, and a total occupancy load of 175. They also request an entertainment endorsement.

Meanwhile, on H Street, there's application for a new tavern called the Dynamix Lounge that will feature poetry and spoken word events, as well as live entertainment, with dancing and a cover charge. Dynamix is coming to 1220 H St. Total occupancy load of 75.

The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board granted an extension that will allow the license for Family Liquor (710 H St.) to remain in safekeeping until the end of September of this year. I believe the store ceased operations in October 2014. Last October an owner of the store told the ABC Board he wished to keep the license in safekeeping due to a dispute over ownership of the building.

It's changed owners. The new place is called On The Rocks, and it should open in a few weeks.
