Local Briefing: Jimmy Valentine's Turns 10, Seitsema Praises Stable, Englert Sells Mt. Olivet Parcel
Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club Toasts Ten Years
It's hard to believe it's been ten years since Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club (1103 Bladensburg Road) opened its doors on Bladensburg Road. The past decade has brought some changes to the mostly commercial strip. Some shifty car dealerships have disappeared, and the addition of W. S. Jenks Hardware has been a boon for the community. At any rate, the little bar has persevered and won many fans over the years. Join the Jimmy Valentine's team for a party Sunday, May 28 starting at 9 pm.
Seitsema Praises Swiss Spot Stable
Food critic Tom Seitsema of the Washington Post appears to be pleased with the offerings at new Swiss restaurant Stable (1324 H St.).
Englert & Partners Sell Mt. Olivet Parcel
Joe Englert, who has played a significant role in opening multiple bars and restaurant along the H Street NE Corridor, announced last fall that he would back off plans to open a combination coffee roastery, beer garden, and bouldering gym on Mt. Olivet Road. Michael Neibauer of the Washington Business Journal reports that Englert and his partners have now sold the former Strauss Photo property at 1240 Mt. Olivet Road to another developer for $2.2 million. This is across the street from Kovak's.

I appreciate this roundup. I would not have seen any of these interesting stories otherwise.
Please keep us posted on the development of that parcel-- it would make such a huge difference! Also, still no updates on what's coming to the Argo space?
Argonaut becoming kombucha cafe. You heard it here first.
Kombucha cafes belong on the west end of H.
does anyone know what they're building next to Jenks Hardware? is it an expansion of their existing store?
@poo - dialysis clinic. DaVita.
I concur with the first comment. This is an excellent source of information about the hood. And I'll welcome a Kombucha Cafe to our end of H happily. Bring it!
