The DDOT team for the New York Avenue Trail and Streetscape Project wants to meet you. They'll have blue tents set up outside Union Market (1309 Fifth Street NE) Saturday, August 19th from 10 am to 1 pm. Come out to discuss various aspects of the project and learn more about it generally.
From the project's website:
"New York Avenue NE is a major transportation route, a neighborhood and an important industrial and commercial hub in DC. As new developments are emerging onto New York Avenue, DDOT is working to create a cohesive corridor streetscape and trail for all users of New York Avenue NE. This project will identify improvements that include sidewalks, streetlights, plantings, trees, benches, public art and other public space improvements."
As this map from the project website shows, the study area follows a long stretch of New York Avenue that includes all of the Union Market/Florida Avenue Market neighborhood (and a small chunk south of Florida Ave), Ivy City, and the Arboretum neighborhood, touches Trinidad, and wraps around two sides of Gallaudet University's campus.
