The piece was the second in a two part look at homicides in four cities (Chicago, Baltimore, the District of Columbia, and Los Angeles). Homicide rates rose in the first two cities, and fell in the latter two. Anwar Saleem of H Street Main Street was among those interviewed for the portion covering the District.
Applications Open for Mosaic Theater Company's AIR Program
The award winning Mosaic Theater Company, which is based at the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street NE), is offering apprenticeships, internships, and resident fellowships through their AIR program. Applications for the apprenticeship and resident fellowship program are due February 2. Internship applications are due on a rolling basis (Feb.2, April 6, July 2) – deadlines are depending on the semester that prospectives would like to join Mosaic.
Mosaic's current production is Queens Girl in Africa, which tells the story of "teenager Jacqueline Marie Butler as she and her family travel to Nigeria following the assassination of her father’s close friend, Malcolm X." That show runs through February 4, and is part of the 2018 Women’s Voices Theater Festival.
