Memorial Funds & a Family's Plea for Answers Follow Fatal Stabbing of 16 y/o Tyshon Perry

16 year old Tyshon Perry was a sophomore and honor student at the nearby KIPP D.C. College Preparatory charter high school. By accounts I've read he was well liked by peers and teachers alike, a bright young man with a bright future tragically cut short. His parents have said Tyshon dreamed of being the first black director of the FBI.

Around approximately 4:25pm MPD officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1300 block of Second Street NE, near the NoMa Metro station. They found "a juvenile male victim unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from a stab wound." He was taken to a hospital, but did not survive. Witnesses reported seeing a large group of teens and a tussle prior to the stabbing. The group scattered after the stabbing. It's not clear that Tyshon was targeted, or even that he was part of the group. According to multiple news reports (a Washington Post story says the unidentified teen caller used Siri) to call Tyshon's mother and tell he lay there dying.

MPD offers a reward of $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.  If you have information about this case, please call the police at 202-727-9099. Tyshon's family has set up a Go Fund Me page "Continuing Legacy of Tyshon Perry" to help with funeral and other costs. The Go Fund Me effort has been covered by local media. 

There is also a separate Tyshon Perry Memorial Fund that has been set up by KIPP DC. Donations to the Memorial Fund are tax deductible and "will be passed through KIPP DC directly to his family as an emergency grant to support them in the wake of this tragedy."
