About 8:30pm on Friday police arrived at the scene of a fatal crash on H Street NE. A hit and run driver in a 2006 Toyota Camry struck a motorcyclist who was headed east on a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX in the 1100 block of H Street. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, but lifesaving efforts failed.
The victim was later identified as 53 year old Oren Dorell. Dorell will be familiar to many readers as he lived with his wife and two sons in the Trinidad neighborhood. He was a foreign affairs reporter for USA Today.
The hit and run driver, 47 year old Daryl Grant Alexander of southeast DC, was arrested by police not long after and has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Driving under the Influence, and Leaving after Colliding.
