MPD Arrests Suspect in Kidnapping on West Virginia Ave & Multiple Area Burglaries

Many might rest a little easier tonight knowing that MPD has arrested a suspect who broke into a home and forced the occupants to travel with him to a nearby ATM to withdraw money. Police arrested Donte Watson (33, of no fixed address) Monday and have charged him with the armed kidnapping and several burglaries that have taken place either in or near Trinidad or (in the most recent case) elsewhere in NE over the past two weeks.

Arrest Made in an Armed Kidnapping and Burglary One Offenses in the Fifth District

(Washington, DC) – Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District and the Violent Crimes Task Force announce an arrest has been made in an Armed Kidnapping and multiple Burglary One offenses in the Fifth District.

1 Burglary One While Armed (Screwdriver) [1300 block of West Virginia Avenue NE] – On Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at approximately 12:33am, the suspect entered an occupied residence. The suspect approached the victim and brandished a screwdriver. The suspect took the victim’s property and then fled the scene. CCN: 18-202-469

2 Burglary One While Armed [1300 block of West Virginia Avenue NE] – On Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at approximately 3:55am, the suspect entered an occupied residence. The suspect approached the victim and brandished an object. The suspect then assaulted the victim, took his property and fled the scene. CCN: 18-203-156

3 Armed Kidnapping (Knife) [1200 block of West Virginia Avenue NE] – On Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at approximately 3:25am, the suspect gained entry to an occupied residence. The suspect brandished a knife and demanded US currency. The suspect then forced the victims to accompany him to an establishment to withdraw money from an ATM. Once there, the victims gave the suspect US currency.  The suspect then fled the scene.  CCN: 18-206-583

4 Burglary One [1800 block of Corcoran Street NE] – On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at approximately 4:55am, the suspect entered an occupied residence. The suspect took the victim’s property and then fled the scene. CCN: 18-208-235

5 Burglary One [1200 block of Oates Street NE] – On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at approximately 6am, the suspect entered an occupied residence. The suspect took the victim’s property and then fled the scene. CCN: 18-208-274. Per an email response from MPD to a question raised on the Yahoo! Group, the suspect "entered through an unsecured point of entry and stole money among other items."

6 Burglary One While Armed (Screwdriver) [1100 block of Morse Street NE – On Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, at approximately 11:16pm, the suspect entered an occupied residence. The suspect approached the victims and brandished a screwdriver. The suspect demanded money. The victims complied. The suspect then fled the scene. CCN: 18-209-140

7 This one is not on the map because it took place up in Langdon. Burglary One [2400 block 20th Street NE] – On Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at approximately 12:45am, the suspect entered an occupied residence. The suspect took the victim’s property and then fled the scene. CCN: 18-209-178. This burglary took place the same day that the suspect was arrested.

Watson has been charged with one count of Kidnapping while Armed and six counts of Burglary One.
