Fifth District police partnered with US Postal Police and DC Fire investigators to get to the bottom of an explosion that damaged a bank of mailboxes in the 2000 block of Maryland Avenue NE earlier tonight. It happened a little before 9pm, was quiet loud, and could reportedly be felt by neighbors in the area. Police temporarily closed surrounding streets. According to a message posted by an MPD representative to a local email group, the blast resulted in property damage, but no injuries to persons. A resident posting on Nextdoor indicated that MPD told her someone had placed fireworks inside a mailbox (@sydellebelle of the Langston Civic Association also tweeted the info).
