The roof deck of local pizza restaurant RedRocks (1348 H St. NE) caught fire yesterday, producing large billows of smoke and an outpouring of dismay and concern on social media. The hardworking firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, and @DCFireEMS confirmed on Twitter that the flames were "confined to [the] roof deck & did not extend downwards into the structure itself." They also said that there were no injuries reported. The first online reports of the fire popped a little after 5:30pm (see this one from @20003ist), and by 6pm firefighters had knocked out the main fire and were checking for hot spots. I have not seen any information as to what caused the fire. I'm just glad that no one was injured.
