An MPD officer on a mountain bike was struck by a car at Florida Ave. and 6th St. NE last night about 7:30pm. WJLA reported that the officer sustained non-life threatening injuries. The officer also tweeted later that she sustained "a bit of road rash to the elbow" and a headache, but was otherwise protected by her vest. She also noted that the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, and that "[l]ots of folks rendered aid." She was treated at a local hospital. Some tweets about the incident suggest that there was a delay in the arrival of an ambulance (reportedly it may have taken up to 20 minutes to arrive).

That delay may be explained by this tweet from @alanhenney indicating that an ambulance was first dispatched to the intersection of Florida Ave. & 6th St. NW rather than NE. Twitter user @MrTinDC pointed out that the long-planned Florida Avenue Multimodal Transportation Project incorporated a protected cycletrack at the intersection where the officer was hit.
