Two Fun Local Options to Get You Moving

DSC_0158

Looking for a great way to get out and get some exercise in the spring weather? Check out these solid options.

Running
Sign up for the Bison 5K Fun Run. The Bison 5K will take place Saturday, May 4 on Gallaudet's campus (800 Florida Ave. NE). Registration is $25 and proceeds from the run/walk go to strengthen academic programs, enhance technology, maintain our learning environments, and provide financial aid to students. All students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members are welcome.

Biking
If you prefer your adventure on two wheels give the Washington Area Bicyclists Association's Sprouts Ride a spin on Sunday, April 28. This ride is for WABA members (most memberships are annual). Choose from two courses, 5 miles, or 15 miles, and experience the joy of springtime biking in the city. The 15 mile Sapling Route runs through the National Mall, past The Wharf, and up the Anacostia River Trail, providing some great views. The 5 mile Bean Sprout Route is a casual ride with a focus on maximizing comfortable riding conditions in the city.

This is a family friendly event. Anyone ages 10 and under can ride for free, accompanied by a registered adult. The accompanying adult must register themselves and the child(ren), be present at check-in with their entire group, and check-in the youth riding with them. Children eleven and older must be registered independently. Children under 18 do not have to be WABA members to participate, and a WABA member can bring as many children as they can manage! The post-ride Celebration of Bicycing at the REI store in NoMa will feature entertainment and treat.

Your registration fee supports WABA’s advocacy, education, and outreach work that makes bicycling more safe, fun, and accessible around the region.
