Film Noir Classics & World Bonsai Day

unnamed-1

The Angelika Pop-Up at Union Market (550 Penn St. NE) is screening some terrific film noir classics this month. They've already shown Gun Crazy and Mildred Pierce, but The Maltese Falcon (May 15), Double Indemnity (May 22), and The Lady From Shanghai (May 29) are still in the queue. Tickets for the Wednesday night screenings are only $10.50.

If you've caught the spring gardening bug, you might be overdue for a visit to the National Arboretum (3501 New York Ave. NE). Saturday is World Bonsai Day and the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum is hosting a few events. Author Michael Hagedorn will give a presentation titled "Bonsai Myths"11am–12pm in the Visitor Center auditorium. That will be followed by the demonstration Bonsai Post-growth Management” from 1–3pm (also in the auditorium) and a book signing for his work “Post Dated: The Schooling of an Irreverent Bonsai Monk” 3–4pm in the Visitor Center lobby.
