A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Pho Comes to H Street
Photo by Charles Haynes
A reader tipped me off that a sign is now up at 1360 H Street announcing the impending arrival of Pho Bar and Grill. This is the former Sweets and Treats space. It is likely the Vietnamese restaurant to which @HstreetDC recently alluded. We chatted about the possibility back then. Photo of the space after the jump.
1360 is the gray building in the middle.
Urban Turf featured the space back in January. As I said have written before, I am very excited that we are starting to see a real uptick in development on the north side of the 1300 block of H Street. We now have several places slated to go in, including: a Shwafel, Evolve headquarters, an undetermined restaurant in Evolve's next door space, Joe's Coal and Ice, and Vendetta. I'm certain this is only the beginning of a trend.

I think your CSS style sheet is messed up. Everytime I post to facebook, I get a string of CSS code. I presume a tag may not be closed. Or is this just a universal Blogger problem?
I get this everytime:
*/ a:link { color:#388; text-decoration:none; } a:visited { color:#776; text-decoration:underline; } a:hover { color:#333; text-decoration:underline; } a img { border-width:0; } #sidebar a:link { color:#000000; } #sidebar a:visited { color:#000000;
Hmm,
that's the first I've heard of it. II can't actually find the problem at the moment. Though that looks like an open tag at the end, it's actually closed. I'll play with it this weekend. Anyone have a theory?
Yeah! They should call it Pho Q!
Or Pho King.
This is awe, awe, awesome news.
Let's hope they offer a large bowl for under $9 and don't skimp on the broth production. If it's anywhere near as good as Pho 75, I will be in there once a week.
Sign me up for some fatty brisket.
Sorry to highjack, but does anyone know about an assault with a knife on the 1100 block of H on Wednesday night? The Examiner reported that this happened at around 10:30 PM. Yet, the Post and a couple of crime maps indicate tht it happened on the 1700 block of H? Did he just get the block wrong. In any case, tough night.
I hope it's not fifteen dollars bowl. Fifteen dollar too beaucoup. Should be five dollar bowl. Doesn't matter if they make it nice nice; five dollars is all my mother allows me to spend.
Kenny G,
I think that the Examiner report was way wrong. They reported 1100, when it should have been 1700.
anonymous- can't find you on facebook..
Any word on plans for the old Ohio Restaurant on the corner of this block?
9:50,
I think it's still for lease.
I hope it's much better than Pho 75 -- Pho 75 has very very one-dimensional broth.
There are a zillion pho places in and around DC, and the vast majority of them aren't very good at all -- if this place has good broth I'll be in absolute heaven.
A couple more names to consider for this place.
I like:
Pho Shizzle: Bar and Grizzel
or
Pho Real Doh
Frank from Sova
LMAO @ Pho Shizzle!
I know it'll never happen, but it's hysterical on paper.
They could play (edited) Snoop songs on the PA. Ha!
I agree totally with Chris. I hope this pho place is nothing like pho75. They use MSG.
Lets hope for the best!
Pho 14 (Columbia Heights) is good place for Pho much better than Pho 75. They were voted the best Pho in DC by CP.
Pho 14 has nothing on Pho 75. They do have delicious Banh Mi, however.
Pho 75 has seen a quality drop in recent years, but it's still the best bet for reliable broth in the area. Just my opinion.
Anybody tried the Banh Mi at R&R Hotel yet?
Pho means soup. So it's "Soup Bar and Grill?"
I've never been to a Pho place with a bar OR a grill, but I have mainly been to Pho places in Chinatowns, not Hipsterville.
I can't imagine a big bowl of soup being served with alcohol....
@ Tom A. - What about Toki Underground?
But I am with you on this one. I've never understood the Pho w/beer desire. How much liquid can a person cram in his/her belly?
This dick-swinging over broth has me recognizing why the coffee debate last year was so poorly received by some.
Belated apologies.
:)
@inked on the CSS thing-
It seems many blogspot blogs do this on facebook. It's really not a big deal at all. I'm surprised they haven't fixed that. There may be a way to fix it, but it's not like it's a fundamental issue. I just delete the garble in facebook when I post.
Haven't seen much on the web about it. Here's a post about adding a 'Facebook' button: http://www.allblogtools.com/tricks-and-hacks/adding-facebook-share-button-for-blogger-posts/
@3:28,
Thanks, I'll check it out.
