Local Briefing: Books & a Burmese Bodega for Small Biz Saturday, Plus Axe Throwing & a Star Wars Themed Bar
I hope everyone has great plans lined up for Thanksgiving. Small Business Saturday is also this weekend. As previously mentioned, the Solid State Books (600 H Street NE) pop-up at The Apollo will celebrate the occasion with games, prizes, visits from local authors, and cider and donuts. The pop-up has plenty of books, cards, and gifts for kids and grown-ups. They also have t-shirts for sale in case you want to show off your local bookstore pride.
Toli Moli, which has been selling falooda, noodle dishes, and more at Union Market (1309 Fifth Street NE) for a while, will open their new Burmese bodega inside the former Honeycomb space at the market this Saturday. Jessica Sidman over at Washingtonian has a nice write-up on the new bodega and what you can expect to find there. She's also got details on Kick Axe, a not yet open Ivy City attraction where you'll be able to grab a drink, and throw axes.
Fritz Hahn of the Washington Post's Going Out Gurus covers the Star Wars inspired Darkside Bar that's currently popping up in the second floor space above Mythology (816 H Street NE). Make plans ahead of time if you want to snap some intergalactic selfies, because the admission tickets the bar sells online are cheaper than paying at the door ($33 versus $40, both prices include two drinks pre-tax and tip).
