Kathy Henderson Picks Up Nominating Petition for Ward 5 Seat in Democratic Primary
I can tell you right now that it's going to be an interesting campaign season in Ward 5 this year. And that's despite the fact that the current Councilmember for Ward 5, Kenyan McDuffie, is almost certainly going to retain his seat. So far he has four challengers hoping to obtain enough signatures to make it onto the ballot for the June 19th Democratic primary. One of those challengers is already a very familiar name to many in our area. Kathy Henderson, current Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner for 5D05, will make her fifth bid for the seat. She's run every time the seat has come up since 2006 (2010, special election in 2012, and again in 2014).
To make it onto the ballot for the June 19th Democratic primary each candidate will have to obtain "250 signatures or 1% (whichever is less) of duly registered voters in the same party and residing the same ward as the candidate." Those signatures must be submitted on or before March 21st. So there's still plenty of time for other candidates to enter the race. I suggest stocking up on popcorn now.

Henderson is fairly good example of the "inmates running the asylum" phenomenon. I'm consistently amazed at the fact that she (apparently) actually gets elected. That speaks VOLUMES about the neighborhood, unfortunately.
She has my vote, said no one ever...
@10:09 - except those people in carver that keep.voting.for.her.
WHY?!?!?!
Speaking of the most embarassing ANC Commissioner in DC, where's the post-meeting fight video from the last 5D meeting?
Not everyone in carver is voting for her!!
I hope someone runs against her for ANC Commissioner next election.
if carver keeps electing her, then carver gets what it deserves. do better!
Moving on up.
