As the federal government shutdown drags on it's taking an increasing toll on many local residents. The District is pitching in to help out a bit by serving free lunch to all youth 18 and under on Saturdays at select DPR recreation centers in the city. One of the options is Joe Cole Recreation Center (1299 Neal St. NE) in Trinidad. Lunch will be served from noon to 1pm. This is a good time to remember that the fitness centers, gyms, and pools at all DPR recreation centers are free to use if you live in DC.
If you, or someone you know, needs a little extra help right now there are options. The District has a page listing resources for anyone (not just furloughed federal workers) who may be struggling financially during the shutdown.
