Hill Rag: H Street Life
Art on display during the 2005 H Street Festival
The Hill Rag has a piece on the new arts offerings in the 400 block of H Street (the art classes I mentioned this morning, and the Dissident Gallery across the street), and the upcoming bar opening in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of H Street. It also mentions that new art galleries are expected to open across the street from the Rock and Roll Hotel (which, despite what the article says, is located in the 1300 block of H Street, rather than the 1200 block).
a not yet open gallery in the 1300 block

Art Classes on H Street
I picked up a flyer outside Sidamo (the coffee shop at 417 H Street) the other day advertising local art classes. The painting and the mosaics sessions advertised are either halfway through, or already ending, but there is a beginner's drawing class that starts up in early February (the 7th). Here are some details from the card:
417 H Street NE (2nd floor)
202-340-3023
artclasses[at]ausdi.org
Art Classes on H Street will be held at the studio of Azerbijani artist Shahin Shikhaliyev. Shahin graduated from the Azebaijan State Art College in 1986 and has exhibited his paintings and drawings worldwide. More information on his work may be found at www.ausdi.org.
The card says that the schedule for the drawing class is forthcoming (my card is old, you can probably get a new one on the door of 417 H Street) so no hours are given, but the hours for the other two courses were all evening hours. No word on the pricing, but the intro to painting (4 1.5 hour sessions) was $294 plus materials, and the intro to mosaics was $135 (for one 3 hour session & 1 1.5 hour session) including materials.
