WP: Country Club in Spring?

The Post contains a short update on what's new and suggests that the H Street Country Club, which will open in the vacant space previously occupied by Phish Tea, will be open this spring. The Country Club is a tongue in cheek venture from Joe Englert and co. that will serve burgers and other American fare amidst a nineteen hole DC themed mini-golf course. Sorry about the barely literate version of this that was up earlier today, I got distracted miscomposition & didn't post the corrected version.

The City Paper blog City Desk has a piece on Joe Englert and his food oriented plans for H street. Not only does Sticky Rice get a mention, along with upcoming grub from the Rock & Roll Hotel (middle eastern inspired fare with an emphasis on the vegan and vegetarian), the H Street Country Club (burgers, or course), Dr. Granville Moore's (unpretentious Belgian food), but the piece also mentions a spot (location not yet disclosed) that Englert hopes might house an Ethiopian restaurant.

Phish Tea to Become Golf-Themed Tavern??

This interesting little item appears on the 6A ABL agenda. It appears that Joe Englert has plans to purchase the massive Phish Tea building & transform it into some sort of golf-themed club. No word on what sort of food he'd likely serve there, but since he plans to seek a CT license he'd need to serve some food. This golf thing isn't knew. Rather, it has repeatedly popped up as a project Mr. Englert would like to take on. At one point there was word that he might plan to open a miniature golf course a bit further up Benning Road. This sounds like a more viable option.
The meeting will be at 7PM at Sherwood Recreation Center (10th & G) on Tuesday, January 16.

There will also be a representative speaking about the restaurant and tavern that Bernard "Cluck-U-Chicken" Gibson plans to open on the 2nd floor of a building on the corner of 12th & H.
